Planning
Track My Wasted Food
I will track the food that my household of 2 throws out so I can learn what we're wasting and why.
Storage
Be Smart About Food Labels
I will learn about food labels and not throw food out just based on the date on the package, but instead check the smell and color to see if it has gone bad.
Storage
Properly Store Apples
I will properly store apples by keeping them on the counter for up to 7 days and then moving them to the refrigerator.I will keep them away from bananas and avocados, since those speed ripening. I will properly store 5 apples.
Planning
Try a Food Tracking App
I will download and use an app that helps me track and manage my food.
Kids
Share Meals at Restaurants
I will plan to share meals with my 1 kids if I know they will not eat full restaurant portions.
Kids
Visit a Farm
I will visit a local pizza farm, teaching farm, or CSA grower to educate myself and my children on farm-to-table concepts.
Storage
Learn About Food Storage
I will learn about food storage and store food based on best practices to keep it from spoiling before it is used.
Storage
Rotate My Foods
When I restock my fridge or pantry, I will put new items in the back and bring older items to the front to be used first.
Cooking
Set a Timer
I will set a timer to keep me on track with kitchen tasks and cooking and baking times so that I don't ruin food.
Community
Get Social
I will share information about food waste and the actions that I am taking on social media.

REFLECTION QUESTIONStorage Rotate My FoodsHow has rotating your foods changed your awareness of what you have on hand? Have you changed any of your shopping habits because of this practice?
Angela Dahlstrom 8/05/2024 7:44 AMI am more aware of what is in the fridge, and amount of item left. That awareness helps me be more mindful of not purchasing items not yet in need. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONKids Share Meals at RestaurantsHave you ever shared meals with your kids at restaurants before? What have you learned about restaurant portion sizing?
Angela Dahlstrom 8/05/2024 7:43 AMI have shared meals on dates and with my grandkids. There often is enough for two people with one meal. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPlanning Track My Wasted FoodWhat did you find you are tossing the most? How can you change your habits to avoid wasting this food?
Angela Dahlstrom 8/01/2024 6:37 AMI found I am tossing produce the most. I find the bag ready to eat salads get slimy and brown more quickly than buying heads of lettuce or romaine. I will change what lettuce I purchase and the amount I purchase. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCooking Set a TimerHow has using a timer changed your kitchen routine?
Angela Dahlstrom 8/01/2024 6:34 AMUsing a timer keeps me focused on the task at hand and not overcooking items.
