I started a compost pile where I have been placing yard waste and food scraps. It noticeably decreases the volume of trash going in the bin.

I freeze my bread until a couple hours before I eat it and only remove small portions at a time. This keeps bread products from getting stale or moldy.

I made a dashi from food scraps for the first time last week -- onion tops, tomato skins, basil stems, etc. It made a delicious soup and was much easier than expected.
