REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Keep all food waste out of the garbageHow has your awareness of the food you waste changed since you started separating it from other trash? Did anything surprise you?
Macklyn Hutchison 8/29/2024 8:03 AMI started a compost pile where I have been placing yard waste and food scraps. It noticeably decreases the volume of trash going in the bin. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONStorage Befriend My FreezerDo a bit of research about foods that freeze and revive well. What can you put in the freezer that you didn't know you could?
Macklyn Hutchison 8/22/2024 11:59 AMI freeze my bread until a couple hours before I eat it and only remove small portions at a time. This keeps bread products from getting stale or moldy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONShopping Glean or ForageDid you know what "gleaning" was before you joined this challenge? Have you noticed any fruits trees or berry patches in your neighborhood that produce more than is being used up?
Macklyn Hutchison 8/16/2024 9:20 AMI found hackberry trees in my neighborhood and learned about making plant milk from hackberries.-
H McCrillis 8/16/2024 6:41 PMAh, never heard of hackberries before. 😃

REFLECTION QUESTIONStorage Preserve foodCanning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. What are some foods you would like to preserve and enjoy later?
Macklyn Hutchison 8/07/2024 7:24 AMI made my first few jars of pickles this week from cucumbers grown in my garden. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCooking Make Soup BrothHave you ever made soup broth from scratch before? What kinds of vegetables do you have on hand to put in?
Macklyn Hutchison 8/05/2024 6:20 AMI made a dashi from food scraps for the first time last week -- onion tops, tomato skins, basil stems, etc. It made a delicious soup and was much easier than expected.
