I try to be a seasonal and rotational eater, which comes easy to me because I don't have a family to provide for. I can decide (or decide not) to get groceries when I want or have a few weeks of eating only what I have.

Me, too! And many of my favorite meals are straight out of the pantry.

Have you noticed any trends in the types of food that you don't make in the right amount?

Welp, I eat broccoli by the bowl and the suggested portion is 2 Tbsp for 1 adult. I can't live like that and won't. It is probably more helpful for families calculating pasta, etc.

Are the portions of other vegetables in the cabbage family also rather small? “Two cups of broccoli.” 😒 Are we rationing cruciferous vegetables these days?

And I thought a cup of broccoli was small.

Who eats 2 tbsp of broccoli?! That's wild the portion is so small!

An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money? How has meal planning helped you avoid waste?

I feel like this fact isn't surprising but I would much rather have the $ to spend on other things - like the ever increasing costs of living. Meal planning has allowed me to use the items I have in my pantry, fridge, and freezer while only purchasing a few items a week.

How easy has it been for you to plan your garden or CSA produce into your meals? Do you ever let your seasonal food go to waste?

It's pretty easy considering I planned my garden around what I wanted to eat.

Growing a garden is a great way to cut down on waste. Usually what I plant is what I like and if I like it, I'm going to eat it.
