Tony's actions
Kids
Share Meals at Restaurants
I will plan to share meals with my 2 kids if I know they will not eat full restaurant portions.
Shopping
Eat Before Shopping
I will resist impulse buys by eating a snack or meal before going grocery shopping. Those who grocery shop on an empty stomach spend 64% more than not-hungry shoppers.
Storage
Create an Eat First Area
I will create an "Eat First" area in my fridge to prioritize food that needs to be used right away for my household of 3.
Cooking
Save the Peels
When life gives me lemons (or other citrus peels), I will use the rinds to make a nontoxic cleaner.
Shopping
Stick to Your Grocery List
I will only purchase the items on my grocery list and avoid impulse purchases.
Shopping
Scrutinize Deals
I will resist the suggestion to buy the quantity advertised on sale and only buy what I know I will eat.
Community
Order Half-Portions or Share Meals
I will ask for half-portions options or share an entrée when eating out to minimize food waste.
Community
Keep all food waste out of the garbage
In addition to using up my edible food, I will keep any extra scraps out of the trash by separating them for backyard composting, curbside pickup, or a drop-off program.
Storage
Be Smart About Food Labels
I will learn about food labels and not throw food out just based on the date on the package, but instead check the smell and color to see if it has gone bad.
Kids
Talk About Wasting Food
I will have a discussion with my 2 children about the importance of not wasting food.

Tony Morcos 8/19/2025 3:24 PMI use a Keurig coffee maker, but instead of the pre-packaged pods, I use reusable plastic pods and bulk coffee. This eliminates the waste of the disposable plastic pods and saves a lot of money. I save the used coffee grounds in a small bucket, and I add a full bucket to my compost about every two weeks.
