Planning
Make Time for Meal Prep
I will set aside time to prepare meals in advance.
Storage
Learn About Food Storage
I will learn about food storage and store food based on best practices to keep it from spoiling before it is used.
Storage
Create an Eat First Area
I will create an "Eat First" area in my fridge to prioritize food that needs to be used right away for my household of 1.
Planning
Learn About and Choose a Meal Plan Style
I will explore different meal plan techniques and choose one that works for my household.
Storage
Be Smart About Food Labels
I will learn about food labels and not throw food out just based on the date on the package, but instead check the smell and color to see if it has gone bad.
Planning
Plan a Leftovers Day
I will plan a meal to use up leftovers by creating a tasty smorgasbord or using a recipe that repurposes them.
Planning
Keep a Food Inventory
I will take a fridge and pantry inventory to stay up to date with what I have at home before I go grocery shopping.
Cooking
Reimagine Leftovers
I will learn about how to repurpose my leftovers into new meals and then try it.
Planning
Sign up for Fridge Check Fridays
will sign up for Fridge Check Friday emails, sent by Hennepin County but open to everyone, to prompt me to check my fridge for food that needs to be used up and for hacks on storing food to keep it fresh.
Shopping
Eat Before Shopping
I will resist impulse buys by eating a snack or meal before going grocery shopping. Those who grocery shop on an empty stomach spend 64% more than not-hungry shoppers.
Participant Feed

Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

Jamila Boudlali 8/15/2024 9:35 AMNeed some ideas for leftover zucchini from the farmer's market.-
Megan Van-Cao 8/17/2024 8:45 PMStir fry's with garlic and oyster sauce or ginger! Just add a bit of oil to the pan and then garlic and ginger, or without the garlic toss in the zucchini and then throw in the oyster sauce. -
Jamila Boudlali 8/16/2024 9:21 AMThanks for all the ideas everyone, this is super helpful! I don't bake as much as I used to, but I could also use the freezer method to add them to soups! -
Layl McDill 8/16/2024 5:58 AMIf they are large you can shave them down and put them in the freezer to make zucchini bread in the winter months. Measure out the correct amount of the recipe so you can just defrost and use. Make sure to put in all the liquids when you defrost it. I've found it saves for over a year (made it two year's once on one year's harvest!) -
Jodi Abbott 8/15/2024 10:31 AMChocolate Zucchini muffins are a favorite for us.

Jamila Boudlali 8/15/2024 9:31 AMPretty good! Made soup for the week with my farmer's market produce and used shrimp I already had in my freezer. I also froze some leftovers before they went bad.
