In addition to using up my edible food, I will keep any extra scraps out of the trash by separating them for backyard composting, curbside pickup, or a drop-off program.
I will plan a meal to use up leftovers by creating a tasty smorgasbord or using a recipe that repurposes them.
I will learn about how to repurpose my leftovers into new meals and then try it.
I will observe how much my family members eat and learn how many portions will match our life stages and appetites.
I will intentionally buy ugly produce at the grocery store, farmers market, or sign up for an ugly produce CSA box.
I will try a new method of food preservation, such as canning, pickling, drying or making jam. I will try 1 preservation techniques.
I will learn about food labels and not throw food out just based on the date on the package, but instead check the smell and color to see if it has gone bad.
I will check to see what will be ready to eat in my garden or CSA box this week and plan recipes that use these ingredients.
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
