Cooking
Taste Test Trial
When I try a new food or recipe, I will only make a small amount first to make sure my household likes it.
Cooking
Save the Peels
When life gives me lemons (or other citrus peels), I will use the rinds to make a nontoxic cleaner.
Planning
Sign up for Fridge Check Fridays
will sign up for Fridge Check Friday emails, sent by Hennepin County but open to everyone, to prompt me to check my fridge for food that needs to be used up and for hacks on storing food to keep it fresh.
Planning
Track My Wasted Food
I will track the food that my household of 2 throws out so I can learn what we're wasting and why.
Shopping
Buy From A Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat directly from a local farmers market and make 4 meals.
Cooking
Cook From Root to Leaf
I will try root-to-leaf recipes, which utilize all parts of the vegetable, such as beet greens, carrot tops, and herb stems.
Cooking
Revive Limp Produce
I will rescue limp produce like leafy greens or carrots by soaking them in cold water or using them in recipes where appearance doesn't matter.
Storage
Create an Eat First Area
I will create an "Eat First" area in my fridge to prioritize food that needs to be used right away for my household of 2.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCooking Save the PeelsWhich citrus do you have the most of and what kind of cleaning product will you make?
Sue Minor 8/06/2024 4:31 PMLemons are very common in our household - with some oranges and limes every so often. I'll explore the types of cleaners that can be made, looking for a glass cleaner recipe. -
Sue Minor 8/06/2024 4:29 PMWe take a bag with various sizes of plastic and glass containers with us to restaurants and use them instead of restaurant provided take-out boxes. No mess in the car from single-use containers that don't close so well and we bring home leftovers to have another day. -

Sue Minor 8/01/2024 3:54 PMMy husband and I compost in the backyard but not everything can go in there. Now that organics composting is available through our garbage pickup, we will reduce our garbage even more. I'm excited to learn how to further eliminate waste through this program.
