Storage
Organize My Refrigerator
I will organize my refrigerator to maximize shelf life based on the temperature and humidity of different spots.
Planning
Keep a Food Inventory
I will take a fridge and pantry inventory to stay up to date with what I have at home before I go grocery shopping.
Cooking
Cook Just Enough
I will scale down the recipe of a meal to make just the right amount for my household of 6 so we eat everything up.
Cooking
Make Soup Broth
I will store vegetable scraps or bones in my freezer and use them to make veggie stock or bone broth. I will make 2 batches.
Storage
Befriend My Freezer
I will freeze leftover food items or meals for later. The freezer is my food-waste-reduction friend!
Storage
Preserve food
I will try a new method of food preservation, such as canning, pickling, drying or making jam. I will try 1 preservation techniques.
Community
Volunteer to Rescue Food
I will volunteer 2 hours to support existing community food waste reduction and recovery efforts like gleaning or for a food bank.
Storage
Properly Store Berries
To keep berries fresh, place them on top of a paper towel in a sealed container to absorb excess moisture and reduce chances of molding. I will properly store 2 packs of berries.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

< Courtyard > 8/14/2024 7:57 AMGood. This challenge had made me think a lot about me waste production and has made me realize that I have a tendance to buy a lot of things and just let them sit there, and through rarely, sometimes they go to waste. It is better for me to just buy things weekly so that nothing goes bad and I don't waste money. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONStorage Preserve foodCanning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. What are some foods you would like to preserve and enjoy later?
< Courtyard > 8/13/2024 6:18 AMWhen my family harvests the tomatoes from our garden we usually have to many and end up canning them. -
< Courtyard > 8/13/2024 6:10 AMI am trying to work on using all of the food I have before I go and get more. Unfortunately, I recently left a cucumber go to waste, only to just go to the store and by a new one. Unacceptable. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONCooking Make Soup BrothHave you ever made soup broth from scratch before? What kinds of vegetables do you have on hand to put in?
< Courtyard > 8/12/2024 6:09 AMIn my house we make this a lot, not necessarily because we have leftover veggies that we want to use, but just because we like it. -
< Courtyard > 8/09/2024 6:13 AMHow’s the challenge been going everyone? For me I have really enjoyed participating as it has encourage me to volunteer more and to think more about me effect on the environment.-

< Courtyard > 8/09/2024 6:07 AMIt was really fun. My group got a tour and then got to help package cucumbers and other veggies.
