Meal Planning using Pantry
I tend to over- buy shelf stable foods and then forget that I have them. My goal is to use up some of those items during this challenge and then be more thoughtful about what I keep in the pantry.
Planning
Create a Household Cookbook
I will create a cookbook or recipe collection of go-to meals for my household to make meal planning easier.
Cooking
Reimagine Leftovers
I will learn about how to repurpose my leftovers into new meals and then try it.
Planning
Sign up for Fridge Check Fridays
will sign up for Fridge Check Friday emails, sent by Hennepin County but open to everyone, to prompt me to check my fridge for food that needs to be used up and for hacks on storing food to keep it fresh.
Storage
Rotate My Foods
When I restock my fridge or pantry, I will put new items in the back and bring older items to the front to be used first.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Anne Scheible 8/20/2024 4:25 AMI was given some old apples - almost ready to throw out. I made cinnamon applesauce out of them in the crockpot. -
Anne Scheible 8/17/2024 2:49 PMToday I made chicken broth from the carcass of roasted chicken and vegetable soup out of old vegetables that had been languishing in the refrigerator. -
Anne Scheible 8/15/2024 6:47 PMToday I made lunch out of lots of odds and ends in the frig: mushrooms, peppers, onion, feta cheese. Sautéed all that and wrapped it up in a tortilla. Tasty and cleaned out a lot of space in the refrigerator. -
Anne Scheible 8/12/2024 9:13 PMI’ve been working my stores of food down. I have so much in the pantry, the frig and the freezer that it’s hard to get control of it all.-
Layl McDill 8/13/2024 6:07 AMI always think it's a fun challenge to figure out how to use up what you have without shopping more if you can. Good luck! I hope you can come up with some interesting new combos!

Anne Scheible 8/07/2024 1:50 PMWe had a poor start to this challenge. I didn’’t communicate to my spouse that I had signed up for the challenge and one of the first nights he had left food out of the refrigerator for several hours. It helps if you are both “on board” with the goal.-
H McCrillis 8/08/2024 12:15 AMVery true. 😕 I remember last year needing to remind Mom to recycle wasted food rather than tossing it in the trash.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCooking Reimagine LeftoversHow have you modified what you do with leftovers to make sure nothing goes to waste?
Anne Scheible 8/07/2024 1:42 PMWe have been eating leftovers for lunch for years and yet we still have portions that get thrown out. We have a new refrigerator that is counter depth. Hopefully things won’t get “lost” in the back like they did in our old refrigerator. However, there is not a good space in this new frig for an “eat first” area.
