Planning
Create a Weekly Meal Plan
I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu of meals and ingredients for my household of 2.
Planning
Sign up for Fridge Check Fridays
will sign up for Fridge Check Friday emails, sent by Hennepin County but open to everyone, to prompt me to check my fridge for food that needs to be used up and for hacks on storing food to keep it fresh.
Storage
Learn About Food Storage
I will learn about food storage and store food based on best practices to keep it from spoiling before it is used.
Cooking
Save the Peels
When life gives me lemons (or other citrus peels), I will use the rinds to make a nontoxic cleaner.
Planning
Plan to Use My Garden or CSA Produce
I will check to see what will be ready to eat in my garden or CSA box this week and plan recipes that use these ingredients.
Cooking
Make Soup Broth
I will store vegetable scraps or bones in my freezer and use them to make veggie stock or bone broth. I will make 1 batches.
Community
Order Half-Portions
I will ask for half-portions options at a restaurant or cafe to minimize food waste.
Cooking
Swap This for That
If I am missing an ingredient for a recipe I will find a substitute I have on hand and use that instead.
Participant Feed

Madeline Summers 8/06/2024 10:35 AMI'm participating in the tinctures and salves class for leftover garden and fridge herbs today. I am really excited about it as I have not crafted anything like this before. I am curious if anyone has food scrap tips that are not necessarily food related...like have you make your food scraps into something else? -
Madeline Summers 8/02/2024 7:28 AMAt this time of year, I am always pre-making salads. I have found that jar salads are an easy way to measure how many greens I really need (I tend to overbuy this item!). The dressing for the salad being at the bottom of the jar also makes it easier for me to grab and go. I find messing with the smaller containers or even a full-size dressing bottle unwieldy! Does anyone have a favorite salad dressing they would share?
